Misiorowski Shines in Debut as Brewers Shut Out Cardinals 6-0
MILWAUKEE – Brewers fans got a glimpse of the future Thursday night as top prospect Jacob Misiorowski delivered a dazzling major league debut, pitching five no-hit innings to help lead Milwaukee to a 6-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
The 6-foot-7 right-hander was electric on the mound, striking out five, walking four, and lighting up the radar gun with a fastball that topped out at 102.2 mph. Misiorowski (1-0) exited after five innings due to cramping in his right calf and quad, slipping slightly while throwing his third pitch of the sixth. Medical staff quickly checked on him before he was pulled for reliever Nick Mears.
Despite the early exit, Misiorowski’s outing was a statement. He threw 14 pitches that registered 100 mph or faster—nearly doubling the total number of such pitches by Brewers starters since 2008, according to MLB.com.
The Cardinals didn’t record a hit until Willson Contreras singled off Aaron Ashby to lead off the seventh inning. Ashby went on to pitch the final three innings to earn his third career save—and his first since 2022.
On the other side, St. Louis starter Sonny Gray (7-2) came in with a hot hand, having allowed just three runs over his last four starts. But the Brewers had his number this time. After appearing to escape a jam in the fifth by picking off Isaac Collins at first, Gray was rocked for five straight hits, including a two-run single from Sal Frelick and a two-run homer by Jackson Chourio that ended Gray’s night.
The Brewers’ fifth-inning rally broke the game wide open.
In a scary moment in the eighth, Cardinals outfielder Victor Scott was hit in the head by an 80 mph pitch from Ashby but remained in the game after being evaluated.
Key Stat:
Jacob Misiorowski’s 14 pitches at 100+ mph set a new benchmark for Brewers starters in the pitch-tracking era. Before Thursday, the entire Brewers rotation had combined for just eight such pitches—ever.
