Boat Explosion at Table Rock Lake Injures Two Women

On June 7, 2025, two women—one from Springfield and one from Branson—were injured in a boat explosion at Indian Point Marina on Table Rock Lake in Stone County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred while the pair were refueling a 1989 Carver Santiago watercraft. Shortly after fueling, the vessel exploded.

A 74-year-old woman from Springfield suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by Staff for Life to Mercy Hospital for treatment. An 18-year-old woman from Branson sustained minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to an undisclosed medical facility.

Boater Safety Tips:

To help prevent similar accidents, here are a few important boater safety tips to keep in mind—especially when fueling or operating watercraft:

  • Turn off all engines and electrical equipment before refueling.
  • Extinguish any open flames and do not smoke near the fueling area.
  • Ensure all passengers are off the boat or in a safe position before fueling.
  • After fueling, open all hatches and doors to ventilate and check for fuel vapors.
  • Use your nose—if you smell gas, don’t start the engine. Ventilate again until the odor disappears.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it.
  • Regularly inspect fuel lines and tanks for leaks or corrosion.

Practicing proper safety procedures while boating can help prevent serious injuries and ensure everyone has a safe day on the water.
