Throughout June 2025, Springfield health inspectors conducted routine checks at several local food establishments, revealing a handful of critical violations. Here’s a summary of what was found:
Beef-A-Roo – 3312 E Chestnut Expressway (Inspected 6/18/2025)
A routine inspection resulted in one priority violation. Inspectors found whole roast beefs being held at 106°F—well below the safe temperature threshold. Per food safety guidelines, potentially hazardous foods must be cooled from 135°F to 70°F within two hours. The issue was corrected on-site, and the roast beefs were voluntarily discarded. Educational guidance was provided to staff.
Boys and Girls Club Concession Stand – 720 S Park Ave (Inspected 6/20/2025)
Three priority violations were documented at the concession stand:
- Damaged ceiling above the ice machine (repeat violation)
- Gap observed along the bottom of an exterior door (repeat violation)
- Employee handwashing sink lacked paper towels
These issues pose potential contamination risks and were noted for correction.
Brick and Mortar Coffee – 1666 E St. Louis St. (Inspected 6/25/2025)
Inspectors discovered mold growth inside the ice cream machine. Staff were advised to discard the product, thoroughly clean and sanitize the machine, and only then refill it. Education on proper maintenance was provided during the visit.
