SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — After a period of renovation, the historic Midtown Carnegie Branch Library is ready to welcome the community once again. Doors will reopen to the public at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 9, according to the Springfield-Greene County Library District.
The updates aim to improve both accessibility and infrastructure, featuring a new entrance with upgraded accessibility ramps, a repaired elevator, a completely new HVAC system, and modernized plumbing throughout the building.
Library branch manager Eva Pelkey emphasized the library’s vital role in the community: “Many people in our area don’t have reliable internet or computer access at home. They come here to fill out job applications, search for housing, and complete other essential tasks.”
This reopening also coincides with a significant milestone—2025 marks the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library’s 120th year of service to the Springfield community.
The library is located at 397 E. Central St., and all are welcome to visit the updated space starting June 9.
