Springfield Man Sentenced After Deadly Dispute Over Stolen Money
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man will spend decades behind bars after pleading guilty to killing a woman during a dispute over stolen cash in late 2023.
On June 5, Brandon Lewis Huddleston, 26, was sentenced under a plea agreement to a total of 33 years in prison. The charges include 15 years for second-degree murder, 7 years each for stealing $750 or more and second-degree burglary, and 4 years for third-degree domestic assault. All sentences will run concurrently, with credit for time already served.
The victim, Lacey Nix, was found with a gunshot wound outside a home on West La Siesta Place on November 13, 2023. Police determined that Huddleston shot Nix after the two argued over how to divide $5,000 they had allegedly stolen earlier that day from Spin City Gambling Center on Kearney Street.
Huddleston reportedly told police he shot Nix after she pointed a gun at him. Investigators recovered two firearms at the scene. Court documents revealed that $3,050 was found in Huddleston’s bag and another $1,950 in a black box at the residence.
Surveillance footage captured Huddleston saying, “You aren’t going to shoot me over $3,000,” just moments before the shooting. He later admitted to arguing with Nix about how to split the money—each was supposed to receive $2,500.
Additional video evidence revealed a prior incident on November 11, 2023, where Huddleston physically assaulted Nix following an argument.
